Rod & Reel Rally

Catfishing Tournament
July 21, 2012

The Red River of the North’s only WHOPPER catfishing tournament!

2011 Tournament Report
2011 Rod & Reel Rally Results - Saturday, September 17, 2011

Drayton’s 2011 Rod & Reel Rally catfishing tournament was held September 17, 2011.

This year’s tournament was a long time coming.  After postponing twice due to high river levels, organizers picked a September date hoping things would dry out eventually so that folks in search of a tournament-winning whopper would have a chance to try their luck.

Tournament day was seasonably cool, overcast, and breezy, but Mother Nature had finally tamed the river and anglers seemed excited to be getting out for some whopper fishing.   Fishing action started a little slowly, then became steady during the afternoon, with a big influx of weighable fish coming in right at the close of the tournament.  With no rain in sight, spectators wandered down to the waterfront one by one during the day in hopes of catching a glimpse of a big cat being brought in from a boat.

With the number of boats down this year due to the multiple postponements, no records were set for total fish weighed in.  24 fish were brought to shore by the 78 participating entrants fishing in 30 boats.
