| The Drayton American Legion Post #159 would like to welcome you to Drayton's Website and the American Legion's web page. Post #159 was organized and chartered in 1919 and has continued to this day. The post holds monthly meetings the second Tuesday each month from October to April. There are 6 elected officers in the legion, elections are held each April to fill the slate of officers. Membership is $20.00 per year. "Paid up for life" is available.
To belong to the American Legion you must have served in the military:
- National Guard and Reserves – Title 10, Subsection 672 or 12301
- Merchant Marines only December 7, 1941 - August 15, 1945
- April 6, 1917 - November 11, 1918
- December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946
- June 25, 1950 - January 31, 1955
- February 28, 1961 - May 7, 1975
- August 24, 1982 - July 31, 1984
- December 20, 1989 - January 31, 1990
- August 2, 1990 - Cessation of hostilities as determined by the US Government
The Drayton American Legion is in the 2nd District and there are 34 posts in the 2nd District with a membership of over 3200 veterans. ND State membership is nearly 23,000.
For 5.5 cents a day you can become a member of one of the largest veterans organizations.
The post sponsors: Legion Baseball (District winner in 2001), Boys State, International Music Camp, Flag Education, Children and Youth Programs, and Patriotic Observances with our Color Guard. the Legion provides a military honor guard for deceased members and all veterans upon request.
